Obituary for ADELA D. MISTARZ

. Adela Dolores (Shubert) Mistarz was ushered into the presence of God on June 9, 2017. Della passed away from complications of Alzheimer's at the West Hills Rehabilitation Center, surrounded by her loving husband of 69 years, Walter, and her 3 cherished daughters, Theresa Jordan, Annamarie (Carmine) DeStefanis, and Patricia (Dr. Gary) Sauer. Della lived her life of 88 years in service to others. Nothing was more important to her than her family, which included her husband, 3 daughters, 7 beloved grandchildren Heather Jordan, Kelly Hobbins, Edward Jennings, Jonathan Jennings, Jacqueline Goth, Stephen Goth, Kevin Goth as well as 3 great grandchildren Tyler, Aaron and Hayleigh. Della was predeceased by her brothers and sisters Van, Stella, Ted, Eddie and Chester, making her the last member of the Shubert family. Della was proud to be a faithful wife to her husband, a role model of a loving mother to her 3 daughters, and simply the best grandma any child could ask for, whether she was attending a swim meet or a tennis match, holding her grandchild undergoing chemotherapy, or assuring a daughter halfway across the country that she could be a single parent because her mother instilled a love of family and a faith in God passed down through 3 generations that could withstand any storms life had to offer. Della was quick to laugh; quick to unconditionally support and encourage others; quick to light a church candle for anyone experiencing a crisis; quick to play 24 bingo cards at once and quick to beat her husband at cards. Della was also quick to tear up and reveal the sensitive heart known to everyone she met. Della was happiest when sharing an everyday moment with loved ones and often reminded family that 'it is the little things in life that mean the most' and each ordinary moment was in fact extraordinary and needed to be cherished and savored. Her first thought was invariably, 'what can I do to help?' & she was truly content to be the wind beneath our wings, uplifting those around her to greater heights and unconcerned with her own wants and needs. Such selflessness & unconditional love will keep Della alive in the hearts and memory of her husband, daughters, beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as friends and extended family who had the privilege of knowing this kind & gracious woman. Instead of flowers, you are encouraged to contribute to the Alzheimer's Association . The family gratefully acknowledges the extraordinary care and compassion that Della received by the staff of West Hills Rehabilitation Center. A memorial visitation will be held at Valerian F.Szal Funeral Home, 238 Helen St., McKees Rocks from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm Friday, June 23. Mass will be said Saturday June 24 at 9:30 AM in St. John of God Parish , St Marys Church, 1011 Church Ave. in McKees Rocks.
